A Rally for Hero Pay was held at the Airport Rd. Tops in North Syracuse on July 16. Over 100 UFCW Local One members and members from area labor organizations were in attendance. The rally was held in protest of grocery retailers like Tops, Wegmans and Price Chopper because they took area hero pay from store employees. Signs that read HERO PAY NOT ZERO PAY were held up and leaflets asking the public to call on Tops, Wegmans and Price Chopper to continue hero's pay. "With record sales and no end in sight for the virus and the precautions are members have to face on a daily basis, hero frontline workers need hero pay not zero pay," Frank DeRiso President of UFCW Local One said to the rally attendees. "Members have to wear a mask, and customers need to wear a mask, no mask, no service." Frank told the group. HERO TO ZERO stickers were handed out for members to wear. The rally will move to Rochester, Albany, Buffalo and Erie in the coming weeks.
