I. SiCKO Continues It's Run at Cinemapolis; 50 Free Passes Available for Tuesday, July 31st Showings....Plus, Get a 'SiCKO' Health Care Card

The Tompkins County Workers' Center will be doing another free round of passes (50) to this coming Tuesday, July 31st viewings of Michael Moore's SiCKO at Cinemapolis Theater (7:15 and 9:35 showings) to those people who are without health insurance. If you know of anyone, or you yourself does not have insurance, please visit or contact the Workers' Center on Monday or Tuesday (115 The Commons or 269-0409), preferably in the afternoons.

In addition, the Workers' Center has been contacted by Moore's office (related to our free passes to the movie) with the following information.

'SiCKO' Health Care Card

You now have the opportunity to print and carry your very own "'SiCKO' Health Care Card." Playing the 'SiCKO' card has worked for a family in DeBary, Florida, whose daughter suffered profound hearing loss and was denied a cochlear implant. Her father sent a letter to Cigna asking, "has your CEO ever been in a film before?" Before he knew it, his daughter's denial was overturned. It also worked for a family in Flint, Michigan who was stuck with a $66,000 medical bill until they posted their healthcare horror story on YouTube. Click here to see what happened next.

Download the PDF of the card below and follow these simple guidelines:
1. Carry the card in your wallet with your insurance card.
2. If denied treatment, show your SiCKO card to your doctor/insurer.
3. Ask your insurer if they'd like to be in Michael Moore's next movie, DVD, or appear on MichaelMoore.com.
4. Tell them that, if denied, you will seek coverage from your local media.
5. E-mail your story to michael@michaelmoore.com.

III. Workers' Center Looking for a Logo

The Workers' Center has struggled for quite a while to come up with a logo that best represents us. If anyone has any ideas on a logo and has artistic abilities, please let us know (by contacting 607-269-0409 or by replying to this email). What we've been using to this point is the Living Wage Now embodied within an image of Tompkins County (see top of this newsletter).

IV. Become a Financial Sustainer of the Workers Center

As a result of our recent affiliation with Jobs with Justice, the Workers' Center is now able to have people make online donations on either a one-time basis; a monthly, quarterly, or semi-annual basis. If you are able to afford this, it would be greatly helpful as we begin to ramp up our efforts (hiring a part and full time person in addition to the Coordinator). Of course, your contributions are tax-deductible.

Please click here or go to https://secure.ga6.org/08/tompkins_donate to become a Sustainer of the Workers' Center!

V. Save-the-Date: Workers' Center to Hold First Picnic, Saturday, September 29th

The Workers' Center will hold its very first Membership Picnic (open to all whether Member or not) on Saturday, September 29th, from 1-5 p.m. at the Large Pavilion in Stewart Park. In addition to food and music, the picnic is part of our commitment to develop a deeper line of communication between the Membership and the actual work of the Center.

If you are able to commit some time/energy to pulling off the picnic, please contact the Workers' Center at 607-269-0409 or by replying to this email.
