On Saturday, April 9, NYSUT members from Central New York joined thousands of other union members and supporters rallying in Times Square in support of workers' rights and in opposition to trying to balance the budget on the backs of the middle class with public sector job cuts.

"This is the first time I've ever felt disrespected," said Jeff Peneston, United Liverpool Faculty Association and Teacher of the Year, about the attacks against teachers. This was his first rally. "You can't ask someone to help raise your kids if you don't respect them."

... Auburn TA member Steven Franchina said he is "disappointed" in the attack on public workers. "We're out there every day and we give it our all no matter what is going on," said Franchina, an elementary remedial math teacher.

Union Rally Draws Over 10,000 to Times Square:

NYSUT members attending this year's RA led the way to a rally to Times Square. Over 10,000 union members and their families stood in defiance of anti-worker actions around the country. This is what democracy looks like!

Funny, Fox said there were only a few hundred at the rally. They may need a lesson from a public school math teacher. Check out their coverage and you decide.
