Tri-County VP Gary Robbins Speaks Up for Workers at Economic Roundtable

Tri-County Central Labor Council's Vice President Gary Robbins, UFCW/ICW Local 251c made sure that workers were not forgotten at a Chenango County Economic Roundtable with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand on January 15. The event was sponsored by Senator Gillibrand, who invited the Labor community to send a representative as well as businesses and elected officials.

Brother Robbins spoke up for the urgent necessity of both saving the jobs we have now from losses from outsourcing  and making sure that new jobs created with Federal assistance were good jobs, not jobs that keep workers in poverty by paying less than living wages,

Senator Gillibrand says that she is working to bring new jobs to the area as well as helping the small businesses which create new jobs for the community.  She noted that in some rural areas of New York unemployment rates are 15%, and that Congress is working on a Jobs Bill.

Tri-County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO was an early supporter of then-candidate Gillibrand in her first election to the House of Representatives, when she came all the way to Sidney, NY to meet with the CLC; VP Gary Robbins was among those who interviewed her for the Council.   The Council thanks Senator Gillibrand for inviting Labor to participate, and VP Gary Robbins for being a strong voice for workers at the table.
